If You Plant a Baby

If you plant a baby what will you grow?
When the first spring sun chases the snow
And leaves the warm, brown earth to bear
Maybe a peach? Maybe a pear?

Will she wiggle her toes into the ground
Send out little roots and then grow round
And happy and fat with a glorious girth?
Or maybe just a eat a clod of dirt?


Will she will send up a bud and eventually bloom
Into a beautiful blossom that lights up the gloom
Of a dreary and rainy early spring day
Making the promise of sunshine in May?

Some things we gardeners aren't meant to know,
So get out your trowel and reap what you sow
Fill your garden with love, and plant your little seed
Then sit back and watch her grow like a weed!
